The Blue Derby Wild, Blue Tier Bioblitz was a weekend of citizen science surveys of high conservation value forests being made available for logging in coming months. It is the first Bioblitz of its type in the forests of north east Tasmania, led by a team of volunteer scientists, field naturalists and nature enthusiasts.
A Biotblitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. The Blue Derby Wild, Blue Tier Bioblitz focused on areas of threatened forests and glacial refugia ecology. Glacial refugia is an area that did not freeze over in last ice age and repopulated Tasmania when the forests retreated. We are going to explore the cradle of north east Tasmania's forests.
